Massive unveiling includes breakthrough touch-based PCs, high-performance Voodoo offerings, billion-color LED display and 17 new notebooks BERLIN, June 10, 2008 - In a massive announcement of next-generation personal systems, HP today unveiled a broad portfolio of products featuring elegant design and inviting new digital experiences. The series of announcements took place at the HP Connecting Your World media event in Berlin, where more than 600 journalists, bloggers, HP partners and other industry influencers from around the world are gathered. "Making the computer 'Personal Again' is our commitment to customers and the driving force behind our customer-experience decisions," said Todd Bradley, executive vice president, Personal Systems Group, HP. "From design elements that make a personal statement and an intuitive touch interface that delivers real innovation, to the breakthrough display of 1 billion colors, we’re working to show a broad and global set of industry segments what our hardware and software engineering capabilities and scale can do for them." New HP TouchSmart brings natural-touch interface and sleek style to the desktop featuring a sleek, new design, the second-generation HP TouchSmart PC provides a friendly, fun approach to personal computing. Entertainment is this all-in-one PC’s forte and focus. A new, natural interface is activated by the tap or stroke of a finger. Photos and music collections can be displayed in tiles or like a fan for fast access. Personifying the stylish power of the new HP consumer notebooks are a sleek, liquid metallic HP Imprint 2 surface design with color-matched keyboards and touch pads; Magic Chrome controls that appear at the touch of a finger; and frameless, flush-glass screens. These new consumer notebooks offer everything-in-one entertainment technology including one-click access to high-definition TV,(2,3) photos, movies and music in a smooth, thin, elegant design. Data loss and hard-drive protection is provided by HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive drop-protection technology. Three new series of consumer notebooks were added to the Compaq notebook PC line, offering high value and attractive, industrial designs in an array of sizes and configurations. For the mobile professional who wants to make a statement, HP introduced the aircraft-design-inspired HP EliteBook PC as one of 10 products added to its business notebook lineup. Incorporating the latest mobile technologies and engineered to meet multiple durability tests, the HP EliteBook features a brushed anodized aluminum exterior casing and magnesium alloy chassis for maximum protection, recyclability and rugged good looks. Other innovations include HP QuickLook 2 software,(4) for quick access to email, calendar, task and contact information, and HP SpareKey, which eliminates the need to call IT support when passwords are forgotten. The HP File Sanitizer permanently deletes chosen documents, computer cookies and more to military security standards(5) and allows businesses to recycle notebooks with the confidence that their company data has been removed. HP notebooks are designed with the environment in mind, with features that promote energy efficiency and materials that enable easier recycling. Several HP business notebooks are available with the choice of an optional mercury-free Illumi-Lite LED display, which is lighter and more energy efficient than standard notebook display technology. HP has set a goal to remove all mercury - a material commonly found in notebook screens - from its entire notebook line by the end of 2010. Its reds, greens and blues are visibly deeper, its blacks are four times darker and its whites are adjustable.
