Great Laptop!Great laptop! I have the old omen 15 2020 model so going from a 1060 graphics card to a 4090 is a huge difference, and got it for a really good price!! Temperature run about the same but I’ve always used a laptop cooling mat underneath to help them. Screen is nice and bright and clear to see. The only thing I wish was different was just where the usb-c port goes, it’s blocks the hdmi port where my headset is plugged in for wireless. Unfortunately I have a wide adapter but on the old laptop it was on the right side so nothing was in the way. Other then that games run good on it, very happy!

excellent machine.Quite early days with it currently, but its fast and powerful and the screen is clear. Only minor quibble is that in the set up it insisted on bringing over a restore from another laptop (which I couldnt see a way to stop) - but that may be a Microsoft Windows issue and nothing to do with HP. On the plus side the Windows reset feature worked without issues. Generally would recommend. Moving from an 8 year old Alienware ( which is still going) so will be interesting to see if this lasts as long

Great laptop overall with one caveatSpeed, performance, cooling everything Amazing.
Speakers and microphones are better then my iphone 15 pro max!
Single caveat is the keyboard with no Numpad and extra macro keys which takes a getting use to.

Overall all nice computer with a small issue for me.Only small issue is the horrendous camera that does not even work with facial recognition. Not its main function by any means and gaming is smooth and after pushing it over a week I have no complaints other than the potato camera.

Excellent experience from Official HP ebay sellerBought on sale in ebay - Incredible price by HP official store on a high performance gaming laptop, better than their own website, with ADDITIONAL discount on top of the discounted RRP. Well packaged in original boxing, Fast free postage, Installed and configured and games tested working nicely, with high framerate, even with wireless VR on Quest 3. (RTX 4080 mobile GPU spec still faster than my old desktop watercooled RTX 3080). 330W power supply & main box not overheating, good fans. Very happy, thank you!
I highly recommend this at the HP sale price - I could not justify paying full price, even though it is not exorbitant for the configuration spec :)
In ambient temp of around 22 deg C,
-gaming under full load, temperatures of CPU & CPU get up to 84 degs C before throttling, but speed remains more than sufficient.
-using normal desktop iGPU, CPU temps remain mid to low 40 deg C, and the nVidia GPU is inactive.
-battery life on normal continual desktop load on 1440p res with full brightness is around 2 to 2.5 hours on 'balanced' power setting - it would be longer on battery saving mode and low screen brightness.

Best bang for your buck! You bet!I bought this laptop for my video and photography editing, I mainly use Lightroom and Davinci Resolve. I was looking for equivalent spec laptops for the same money (after discounts) and nothing even came close.
Overall, I am super happy with the performance and my workflow has dramatically improved.
Its a quality build and not too heavy fornthe size.
I might even play the odd game when I find the time.

Just a travelling gamer from
Great price on special for ad103 16gb, with a few draw backsWhen I bought it on special for 3300aud, which for the specs I think is a decent price. Screen is nice, so is the keyboard. Having a AD103 16gb in it was the main reason I bought it as I'm travelling but want gaming.
Cooling is not sufficient for the heat load. Raised or cooling pad when gaming is essential. Heat soaks into the chasis as it has no where to go. VRAM temps are way too high compared to competitors models. I've seen teardowns online to show that there is a dual shared heatpipe for the CPU and GPU. With the heatspreader plate of the gpu having an additional heatpipe. But not all the VRAM get covered by a pipe. I'd say if there was a heat pipe running over all the vram temps would be better. Could of easily used the vent in the middle bottom as a metal heat spreader also. After extended warranty goes out I'll definitely mod it to see what I can get.
Even though it's a 13700HX the bios is completely locked down. You can use omen software to undervolt it overall. Mine isn't a good sample, only got -0.105mv to be stable. You're also locked out of other software to undervolt. Since it's a refresh 13th gen you're stuck on 4800mhz ddr5, c34 ripjaws not really worth it from my research.
If it was to get 5 stars. It would need additional heatpipes as a minimum and an unlocked bios or at least just unlocked cpu undervolt.

HP refuse to import their best computers into AustraliaThis was the best 17inch Omen I could have supplied to me by HP in Australia. Yet, it has a lower spec chip and less memory than the 17inch Omen laptop I purchased two years ago, in 2021. How can this be so? I've now swapped to my new laptop and I am nearly out of memory. It's very disappointing that I would have to go backwards just because I want to stay within the HP range of products. I found a higher grade machine at Walmart in the US of all places but they wouldn't deliver to Australia. At first the HP Store said they could supply it to me, which I replied, "Really?" And they came back said "No, actually, we can't" So, now i am stuck with the best new laptop HP can sell me, and it's a step backward from the version I bought two years ago.

Great performance at a good price. My mode came with the i7 13700hx, nvidia rtx4090, 32gb ddr 4800mhz ram, 1tb ssd, 1440p 240hz screen, and per-key rgb. This was the only model on the Australian store and no customisation options were available at the time of purchase.
The laptop boasts a massive amount of power. The 4090 gpu performs very as expected. The CPU, while not bad, is the weakest point and I have found it limits the 4090's performance somewhat in CPU heavy games. The device runs reasonably cool under strain, the gpu in the high 70's and the CPU mid 80's in performance mode. The balanced mode runs a bit quieter for a small drop in power. The exterior gets slightly warm underneath and towards the top of the keyboard, but it isn't uncomfortable. CPU heavy tasks and benchmarks see the i7 thermal throttling at 95 degrees, but performing well within expectations for the chip.
Gaming at the 1440p built in screen is smooth and easily maxes out the settings in anything. Especially if the games support DLSS3 Frame generation to take full advantage of the high refresh rate screen. It also handles every game I've thrown at it on an external 4k screen at 60 fps or better. I currently hold the highest TimeSpy score for any laptop using the i7 13700hx and nvidia 4090 using this device. The device has the ability to switch to the nvidia gpu only (Advanced Optimus) so the full performance is available without having to use an external screen.
The screen is nice and smooth with the 240hz refresh rate and gives clear images with the 1440p resolution. Colour reproduction is decent but not great at 100% srgb and brightness is a bit below par.
Keyboard is one of the best one any laptop I've used, the spacing is great and allows comfortable typing, the lack of a number pad is a bit disappointing, but for the typing comfort I'm willing to lose it. With highly customisable per-key lighting that looks great. Touchpad has a great feel to it as well.
The plastic chassis lacks some of the premium feel of metal devices, but also doesn't conduct as much heat making this more comfortable to hold while in use. Finger and hand prints appear easily on the palm rests. The hinge feels study and holds the screen still even while being used on unstable surfaces. The device looks nice and minimal with just the rgb keyboard and a small semi reflective diamond symbol on the lid.
Battery life is disappointing, but following expectations at around 3 hours on combined light use in balanced mode with the screen at 240hz and 60% brightbess. I could get more out of it with some tweaking to further limit cpu power draw, changing the refresh rate to 60hz and lowering brightness. It is a shame the Advanced Optimus (MUX) which allows you to switch the screen to Dgpu only doesn't have an igpu only mode to keep the power hungry 4090 off completely when in eco mode as some applications still wake the Dgpu in Optimus mode when they don't really have to.
Overall the trade offs (screen, chassis and i7 processor) that achieve the price point aren't deal breakers and this is a great laptop.

Great valueGreat thermals and performance for the price.
With a cooling pad, I am running in temps in the low 60s (°c) and getting great FPS.
Would have liked a numpad on a laptop of this size and the changing cable between the brick and laptop could be longer. With that said, I got this laptop on sale and it is an easy 5 stars for the price.

Insane performace at a very reasonable priceI purchased through the afterpay sale and could not be happier. The specs alone are almost unbelievable and 32gb of ram is a welcome upgrade from most gaming laptops still opting for 16gb base. The screen is buttery smooth and finding out it has Gsync was just icing on the proverbial cake.
Say i don't own a desk, and decided to lay on my bed with the laptop and a blanket was underneath it, would that propose a overheating issue? or does the fans work enough it wont overheat?
Asked by: Huon
Thank you for reaching out to HP!
In general all laptops will require appropriate ventilation to release hot and take in cool air to cool in the device. If the ventilations is covered by fabric or soft objects for a prolong period of time, the effectiveness of the fan will not be a factor as the hot air will be trapped and won't be able to disperse out of the laptop.
