Best Large Laptops from HP

Let’s face it, screen size matters. When you’re a designer, engineer, photographer, or want a bigger window into your working world, a laptop with a big screen makes a huge difference.
Maybe you edit video projects on Adobe Premiere, or you’re a programmer who likes Sublime Text open in one window and RAD Studio in another. Even office warriors can get a lot of mileage from the largest laptop screens, with plenty of room to see spreadsheets, docs, and web pages with less scrolling and zooming.
In this article, we’ll provide you with the best large-screen laptops from HP for 2022, like the HP ENVY 17, HP OMEN 17, and HP ZBook Fury 17 G8. We’ll also share tips about who needs a large screen laptop and who doesn’t, and you’ll see the specs that matter most.

What’s the largest screen laptop?

The largest-screen laptop is 17.3 inches in 2022. Laptop screens are measured diagonally, so an extra inch of laptop screen size gives you plenty of added real estate. Manufacturers cap their biggest laptop screen size at 17.3 inches for two reasons: portability and the ease and affordability of buying an external screen.

Should you buy a large screen laptop?

If portability is your main focus, steer clear of buying a large-screen laptop. If you’ll always have the option to plug into an external screen, a small-screen laptop is usually best. However, if you’ll work exclusively on a laptop, need more viewing space, or want more powerful specs, go for a large-screen laptop.

Pros

Laptops with bigger screens tend to have more ports, more RAM and storage, better processors, and more powerful video cards. You’ll see more of your work on a 17-inch laptop, and you’ll get better gaming performance, more resources for video editing and 3D rendering, and more space for watching movies.

Cons

Smaller, slimmer 13-inch and 15-inch laptops are more portable and easier to take with you in a pinch. If your workflows don’t include processor-heavy apps like CAD or Adobe Photoshop, you don’t play CPU-intensive games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and you do most of your work on an external screen, a smaller laptop screen will serve you well.

What to look for in a large screen laptop

There are a few key specs to look for in a large-screen laptop to make sure you get the power and display quality you need.

GPU

Thanks to the extra space in a large-laptop chassis, you can access better graphics cards like the NVIDIA GEForce RTX series. That means more data science, more realistic gaming with ray tracing, and AI cores for cutting-edge graphics you have to see to believe.

CPU

Look for an Intel Core i5, i7, or i9 processor from the 10th, 11th, or 12th generation or an AMD Ryzen 3. You’ll want plenty of muscle under the hood if you use your machine for 3D rendering, video editing, design, or serious gaming.

Display

Make sure your large-screen laptop doesn’t skimp on screen quality. Opt for at least an FHD display at 1920 x 1080 resolution, up to WQXGA at 2560 x 1600, or even a 4K UHD display at 3840 x 2160.

Memory

Most laptops have at least 8GB of RAM, but you can easily pack 16GB into a big-screen laptop, up to 32GB, or even 64GB – though you won’t need that much unless you’re a data science pro.

Storage

For most applications, a 512GB SSD offers plenty of space for files, games, apps, and videos. But a laptop with a larger chassis can accommodate up to 2TB of fast SSD storage to support a desktop-level experience.

Summary

A large laptop is a breath of fresh air for anyone who works long hours on the go. Web designers, photographers, engineers, and other pros can enjoy much smoother workflows thanks to the added real estate of a large laptop screen. As a bonus, the more robust components in a big-screen laptop bring an additional power boost.
