In the world of computing, few names are as legendary as Intel®. Since theyintroduced the very first microprocessor all the way back in 1971, Intel has been at the forefront of computer innovation, and they remain one of the top CPU manufacturers to this day.
Nowhere is this more evident than in their 13th generation of computer processors, codenamed “Raptor Lake.” Not only do they utilize an exciting new hybrid architecture, but they also represent an unprecedented leap forward in the world of mobile CPUs - and that’s on top of their equally impressive desktop CPUs.
If you’re not familiar with the nitty-gritty details of computer processors, you may be wondering what makes Intel’s Raptor Lake processors so special. Don’t fret. In this article, we’ll take a quick look at how these new CPU models improve computing experiences for a wide range of users, from gamers to professionals and everyone in between. We’ll also review six new HP products that feature Raptor Lake processors for unequalled performance across a variety of tasks.
What is hybrid CPU architecture?
If you’ve been in the market for a new desktop or notebook device, you’ve likely noticed that a computer’s central processing unit, or CPU, is advertised by the number of cores. A computer core performs the calculations and operations needed for the machine to function - so the more cores a CPU has, the faster it is. Put simply, the number of CPU cores is a quick, easy way to determine the power of a computer’s processor.
What makes Intel’s newest processors so special is that they use a brand new hybrid architecture, which utilizes two different types of cores for improved performance in certain tasks. Previously, this unique type of processor architecture, also known as ARM, was only found in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
INTEL 12TH GENERATION: P- AND E-CORES
But, in 2021, Intel released their 12th-generation “Alder Lake” Core™ processors, which were the first ARM CPUs for desktop and notebook PCs. Intel calls the two types of cores in their processors Performance Cores, or P-Cores, and Efficiency Cores, or E-Cores.
P-Cores are full-sized cores like the ones traditionally found in CPUs. They’re used for larger, resource-intensive processes.
Conversely, E-Cores are smaller and draw less power than P-Cores, and are used for less intense background tasks. Offloading certain processes to E-Cores helps speed up P-Cores for heavier workloads.
Intel unveils 13th-Gen Raptor Lake CPUs
Intel’s 12th-Gen hybrid CPUs were a success, so they set out iterating. In October 2022, they unveiled the subsequent generation of processors, Raptor Lake. Intel’s Raptor Lake CPUs are included in some of HP’s best products. For a closer look at how these processors perform, here are three desktop computers powered by an Intel Core processor.
DESKTOP COMPUTERS
Whether you’re working or gaming, these three desktop computers have you covered thanks to their 13th-Gen Intel processors.
