If you need more information on HP's desktop computers before making a purchase, or you'd like to learn more about what to look for in a desktop, then follow our easy 6-step checklist below. It's a game-changer that'll help you find the right computer for you.
Here's how to choose which desktop PC is right for you
When you've got thousands of desktop computers to choose from, finding the right one for you can suddenly seem like a daunting task.
Choosing between brands, making account after account for each online store, identifying all the components you need your desktop to have and finally making the decision to purchase your computer is exhausting.
That's why we've made this quick checklist for anyone shopping online for desktops, computers and even laptops!
Step 1: Decide how you will primarily use your new desktop computer
This is simple but often overlooked by people looking for new computers—particularly first-time buyers.
A simple exercise to complete this step...ask yourself what you will primarily use this computer for. You don't want to pay more than you need to for a high-performance gaming PC if you just need a device to watch videos, work on projects or connect with family and friends.
Once you've decided on what you will be using your desktop computer for, you can move on to the next step.
Step 2: Decide how much storage space your desktop computer will need
If you answered 'video editing and production' in step one, you'll likely need to pay for a desktop that has a larger SSD - 256GB and above - to meet your storage needs.
On the other hand, if you plan on logging onto streaming services and don't ever download programs, movies or video games, then opting for computers with smaller SSD cards and less storage will be a good way to reduce the amount you pay on your future desktop.
Step 3: Decide how much processing power your desktop computer will need
If you answered 'video gaming' in step one, then you will need to pay for more powerful desktop computers that can handle graphically intense games and run more strenuous programs.
This is typically why it's advised to avoid laptops if your main aim is to game. Desktop PCs are much more affordable and will offer higher performance and processing power to give you a gaming experience free from lag (usually).
When you shop online or in-store with HP, keep an eye out for desktops with higher-quality graphics cards and RAM specs that are 8GB and above—it's advised to pay a bit more for computers with more RAM specs. One of HP's best-selling gaming desktops has 32 GB of ram!
Step 4: Decide what software (if any) your desktop computer will have to run
If you answered 'illustration and graphic design' in step one, then you may wish to shop for a desktop that prioritises RAM over storage. This is because intensive software like Adobe Photoshop requires more processing power from your device.
Step 5: Decide which brands of desktop computers you prefer
We may be biased, but we truly believe that at HP, our desktop computers are of excellent quality. Some brands are more well-known for being good at gaming and performance, while others focus more on creating affordable desktops with okay features and specs.
After 80 years of testing, innovating, engineering and tweaking, we know our PCs are reliable and built to last.
Step 6: Choose your new computer!
Now you know what type of desktop computer you need, you can make a more calculated decision when you go to pay for your device online or in-store.
