It's a Laser printer toner cartridge.
It's a toner cartridge for a laser printer. There is no reason to think it is anything special about it. It went into the printer with little effort, was immediately recognized, and restored normal color printing.
I chose HP as the source because remanufactured or cartridges from other sources might or might not perform as well or better and generally don't cost a lot less (although they do cost less). And I bought directly from HP because I have an account, the ordering was fairly simple, and the four or five day shipping delay was acceptable.
For the environmentally conscious, HP provides packaging and prepaid return for the used cartridge.

Terrible shipping practices
Should have been shipped in a cardboard box. I spent iver $200 on the two toners i needed, and they just slapped labels on them and shipped them as is. I went with HP instead of Amazon Smile so I could get them shipped with a little more care. Never again.

Delivery of Toner Cartridges took 10 days!
I have no problem with your LaserJet Toner Cartridges. However, your Sales and Support leaves a great deal to be desired. In the past, for many years, I got my Toner Cartridges delivered the next day. This order took 10 days to be received. It enough to cause me to look elsewhere to buy my toner cartridges.

we buy each cartridge of ink when needed. HP has been excellent for service from ordering to delivery. One of my favorite things is the recycling done by HP! One less thing for me to put in the garbage and go to the landfill.

Love these toner cartridges
I always purchase my replacement cartridges directly from HP. Why, you ask, because doing it this way, I’m insured of getting the freshest, most up-to-date replacement cartridges I can get.
It might be a little more expensive this way but why cut corners with a critical part such as this? After all, the printed product my printer produces, try saying that 3x fast, is a direct reflection of me!

I ordered a toner cartridge
I have been ordering toner cartridges from HP for years. As one of the premier technology companies in the world, you would expect it to be quick and easy to log on, sign in, click on what you need, click check out and log off. Instead, it is unbelievably cumbersome, requiring repetitive entry of information and great frustration. When you FINALLY get the order in, delivery is quick and accurate -- but then you are repetitively harassed for follow-up on a trivial-dollar order. Tech. I recommend HP's products, but the service and ordering convenience sucks profoundly.

Excellent Printer
I have a 12 year old HP7580 multi-function still chugging along, a10 year old HP2015 B&W laser going strong but, my five year-old HP8600 multifunction died early (ink dried out?). This HP477fnw color laser is great! Ink isn't cheap but, it is a clean machine that I would consider small office capable.

HP OEM cartridges cost more than they should, but the quality, longevity, and printer compatibility are invaluable. In the unlikely event of a problem, I know HP will take care of it without any finger pointing between suppliers. Peace of mind has a cost.

Easiest toner change I have ever encountered.
A perfect fit, just open the package and drop the new toner cartridge into the slot that the old one came out of. This is standard capacity and it will last a couple of years based on the the rate I print and on the estimated pages that the printer status gave back. It worked flawlessly from the first page I printed so good quality straight out of the box, no need to print a test page first.
