It’s XL for me!

Ink is expensive
Ink is expensive. Being that HP printers only accept HP ink, it seems more expensive. It does a good enough job and lasts about as much as one might expect. I use personally and not commercially.

It's not as though I have a choice for the purchase of ink cartridges; the printer requires this version, so that's what I have to buy. I don't know why an ink cartridge should have to cost $40-$50 for each one, but it is what it is. I guess that's what a "captive market" does for you.

While I believe these cartridges are too expensive no matter where they are purchased, I buy direct from HP because of the reliability of the company. Since the printer only operates correctly with the original HP cartridges (no knock-offs), I might as well buy direct from the company. With fast, free shipping that includes a return, recycleable cartridge envelope, I'm good with that.

Yo ur representative on the telephone was very polite and helpful telling me that HP no longer made the 901XL ink cartridges that I required but that there was another (61) that was a direct substitute, Sitting next to the printer I read off the model number, serial number and all the information whereupon she placed my order. Very efficient, except the 61XL cartridges do not work in my printer. I then went online to Amazon.com and bought the 901XL from another vendor. Thanks HP, goodby HP.com. No, I do not want to send the 61's back and wait another week for you to send something else that may or may not work.
