Having Paper Tray is helpful
Adding the Paper Tray really helps with the flexibility of using the printer without having to switch papers in the only drawer that comes with the printer.

Worked perfectly the first time.
This is a great addition to our new HP Color LJ Pro 4301fdw Printer. Once it was installed and paper was added, it worked without any problems. Having 550 pages stored will cut down on the probability of user error when reloading.

8-1/2 x 14 Optional Tray for Multi-Function Printers
It's pretty ridiculous to purchase an optional tray for 8-1/2 x 14 paper, only to find out the tray will not completely close. For all of your technology and money, you think a company like HP would be able to come up with something better.

Can I load preprinted checks face down in this additional drawer?
All HP printers are capable of printing names and dollar amounts on premade check paper, you will just need to use check printing software for proper formatting. However, if you need to print full checks yourself, your bank will likely require the use of magnetic ink character recognition (MICR), which would require a modified HP printer and MICR ink/toner.

Does the back of this HP color LaserJet 550 paper tray expand out to accommodate legal paper? The current tray i use as the third tray for my HP 4301 FDW does not expand. So the tray does not close.
Thank you for your question! The HP Color LaserJet 550 Sheet Paper Tray will fit under the HP 4301FDW and will operate in the same way. The tray will protrude out from the printer when using legal-size paper.
