A great, faily powerful little workstation. Wish a stand were available to hold it on edge. Fan can get noisy at 25% CPU load and above. Almost silent at low CPU. Note that USB ports are on the unit's left side and back - no ports on the front.

Died in under a month - warranty service not as hoped.
System was installed 7/11/24 and was working very well. On 7/31/24 it started blue-screening and needed warranty service. A service ticket was opened on 8/1/24 and onsite was confirmed but could not come out until 8/5/24. On 8/5 they did not show. Rescheduled for 8/6. On 8/6 they did not show. Rescheduled for today, 8/7. Still waiting for them...

It is a nice small but powerful package that takes only a very small amount of desk space. In order to keep the small size, an oversize power brick is needed along with a long connecting wire. In some installations this won't make any difference. In others, it is another awkward box and wires that have to be located behind the computer.
While the total number of USB I/O ports is adequet, more should have been located on the rear panel. The USB and headphone I/O should have been located on the front instead of the side.
Would I buy one again? No. I think the standard Z2G9 is a better form factor for general use.

The Z2 Mini G9 is an awesome workstation. Mine has the Intel i9-14900K (125w) with 32GB RAM and the nVidia 12GB RTX-A2000 GPU. Aside from the usual home and office tasks, I use it to edit and encode video. It's been super fast and reliable. It's amazing what can fit into such a small package if it's designed right.

Easy ordering, top-notch construction, fast delivery.
Beat their shipping estimate by a week. Very easy to configure. I bought top processor and required interfaces and minimum memory and ssd. Upgraded memory and SSD to max config myself saving thousands of dollars overall. Unit runs hot. I would recommend heatsinks for all SSDs. Excellent suite of support SW - no adware/bloatware, just what is needed to maintain a secure system. I did have one issue which was easily (luckily) solved at home. The screw that holds the slider catch for the case lid in place (attaches the metal clasp to the plastic lever) was missing. This meant the lid would not lock securely closed. There are sensors that take action on an "open case" alert, so it is not just an aesthetic issue. I could not find an appropriate screw, but a drop of superglue did the trick.

Ugly, works great. HP should be ashamed of stand!
Bought this little workstation to handle demands of new photo processing software. i5-14500, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM and RTX 4000 SFF graphics card. Added 64GB RAM and 4TB Samsung 990 PRO SSD. Works as well as hoped for. Knocked off a star due to utterly useless stand. It's completely baffling to me that HP went to the effort to design and produce a stand that is no better, perhaps even worse than just setting the station vertically on a flat surface. Wish the case at least had square corners instead of rounded ones.

Disappointing Experience with HP Z2 G9 Mini Works
I recently had a disappointing experience with the HP Z2 G9 Mini Workstation, which I found to be problematic. The video ports, particularly the two DisplayPorts on the motherboard, have been a source of constant frustration, causing unstable video output. Attempts to resolve the issue by removing the extended graphics card proved futile, indicating a deeper problem with the unit itself.
Additionally, the workstation is equipped with two USB-C ports that are limited to charging only. This is particularly inconvenient given that many modern monitors utilize USB-C for input, rendering these ports useless for video output without resorting to specific adapters or compatible monitors. The necessity for a mini DP or DP monitor for proper functionality significantly limits the flexibility and usability of this workstation in a multi-monitor setup.
To make matters worse, my experience with HP customer service has been far from satisfactory. Reaching out for support turned into hours-long endeavors with little to no resolution, leaving me with the impression that customer satisfaction is not a priority. The overall lack of responsiveness and the apparent indifference to customer issues have only added to the frustration.
In summary, the HP Z2 G9 Mini Workstation has fallen short of expectations due to its unstable video output, restrictive USB-C functionality, and poor customer service. Those considering this workstation for professional use, especially in environments requiring reliable multi-monitor setups, might want to look elsewhere.

A Little Beast
Great machine, well thought out design with substantial case. The little bit of length increase over the previous model is well worth it due to being able to handle regular very deo cards, not just mobile. It was a piece of cake installing a second m.2 SSD.
The I9 with 64gb will handle anything I can throw at it. I contacted HP service to address questions I had. They were professional and a pleasure to deal with.

Can't handle the heat...
What is the point of offering k series procs if you can't cool them? I specifically went after a 65w i9-13900(non k) and ordered the 125w heatsink and fan. Running a stress test, it will run about 10 seconds before it throttles itself. It's a shame as I really like the small footprint of the machine and it is really quiet.

We love the Z2 Minis - we have had 5 of them to date and have very few if any issues with them. We keep ours on all the time and use them for production graphics and prepress. We need reliability and speed and these do the job of a large workstation in a small package. This new G9 model seems to offer improved cooling and extra internal space. This unit is fast!

Perfect mobile desktop!!
I owned a Z2 mini g5. I love the small format for traveling. Makes the perfect mobile desktop and now comes with a full graphics card. The only issue, I cannot connect to more than 1 monitor in some situations. But, I don't blame HP, It has to be a Windows 11 or Nvidia issue.

Compact and impressive
This tower is very compact and sleek in design. A mouse and keyboard are included, but I had to purchase a monitor. This is about the size of my modem, it takes up very little space!. Windows Pro is already ready to go and its really fast loading webpages. The hard drive and memory can be upgraded, which is a big plus. The graphics are awesome. Its also an energy star model so won't use a lot of electricity like other computers. I really like the wolf pro security features. This is a really nice little system and perfect for what I need it for. I like that I can use my Bluetooth headphones with it. Ill probably upgrade to a wireless keyboard and mouse because I prefer those, but the ones included work fine. HP has made a great little system here. I am loving the compactness of it.

The HP Z2 Mini G9 Workstation provides incredibly high performance in a petite PC. I love the sleek and slender design that packs such a powerful punch! It runs on a Windows 10 Professional Operating System, has a NVIDIA RTX A2000 Graphics Card, a 4.9 Ghz Intel Core i7 processor, has 32GB RAM memory, and a 512GB hard drive. The 2.1Ghz intel core i7-12700 12 core processor with up to 4.9Ghz speed and 25 cache memory is phenomenal. I was absolutely blown away by the graphics which ensured the ultimate gaming experience. I also really enjoyed all the accessible ports including 4 x USB Gen 3.2 Gen 2 charging and 2 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 charging ports for lightning data movement speed. There's also a built-in DisplayPort 1.4 and Mini DisplayPort 1.4 for ultra fast data movement speed output to connect to TVs or multiple displays for jaw dropping HD entertainment. You can literally put this thing anywhere- in your office, next to your gaming consoles, even on your entertainment stand next to the TV! It will conveniently fit anywhere- and look good ! Powerful Little Workstation!
HP's Z2 mini G9 workstation packs quite the punch despite its size. Able to be set on a desk and take up minimal space, the G9 unit is nearly silent and performs exceptionally well for browsing and basic work-related tasks. Also, with almost every input and output port thinkable provided, the G9 interfaces exceptionally well with any system, monitor, or device.
We will admit that we didn't push the G9 to the limits with graphic intense gaming as the system offers 32M RAM. Perhaps with more RAM, we would push the G9 to see what it can do.
Overall, the G9 performs remarkably well as a workstation and is a welcome reprieve from the bulky CPU of the past.

Amazing machine.
I've owned pcs since the late 90s. I've built many of my own towers. I've used those machines for many different applications over the years. I've been a pro photographer, graphic designer, web designer, drone pilot, copywriter, and last but definitely not least a gamer. I'm always absolutely floored when my hands come into contact with pro level gear. There's just a feel to it that's worlds apart. It's something about the heft of the item. The way it balances in your hands, or the way the seams between materials are tight and don't creak. In my 'old age' I've come to scorn luxury items that are so just for the sake of a name brand. I've found that intentionally well made tools are not only a luxury but also a good investment.
I've stayed away from mini pcs in the past because I feared that I wouldn't be able to replace parts, or that they would overheat because of their small size. HP has changed my mind in both of those regards. This small pc comes with an external power supply. Some might see this as a negative, but keeping all the heat normally generated by the psu far away from the case is a stroke of genius design. Notebooks have been doing this for decades.
The first thing I did when I unboxed this machine was to slide the cover off the top of the case. The fit and finish is stunning. It slides off like butter. Inside is a huge copper heat sink that presumably covers the i7 chipset and a large fan that takes care of pulling the heat away from the motherboard. The other side of the case is literally mostly graphics card. I was happy to see that the graphics card is standard and replaceable.
I've never had a pc that used DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort before, so that was a new thing. The machine is really easy to set up though. Plug it in, turn it on and it does most of the work for you. I was happy to see that it had an antivirus package already installed and ready to go. HP Wolf seems really intuitive and easy to use.
The mouse and keyboard that are included are honestly a bit better than I was expecting. Normally these freebies are bottom of the barrel. These aren't amazing, but do seem to be of better quality than most peripherals that come packaged with a computer.
Performance is what I'd expect from state of the art components and the machine's MSRP. It's very responsive. I tested it with some drone footage and was very happy with the output. I think it might even put my gaming pc to shame.
This has changed my opinion of mini pcs for the better.

What an excellent computer this is . My husband loves the speed and performance. Excellent for his website and his work from home job. He's a writer and helps people expand their businesses and helps them built their websites. This little workstation had made his job so much easier. Speed is behind our expectations and performance is great. I will highly recommend this computer and will definitely consider purchase in the future . You get it all in one small box. Huge power, small package!
I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from the HP Z2 Mini G9 Workstation…as I’ve gotten older, it’s become more and more difficult to parse the differences in the iterations of processors and video cards, etc. Often it’s hard to compare one to another, particularly across platforms, and quite frankly, the options can become overwhelming…that’s why I rely on HP, knowing they will use well made, state of the art components to make a computer that performs exceptionally. I don’t mind customization, but I do like to stay within a range that will insure my workflow will be enhanced rather than be hindered. And that’s what I have in the HP Z2 Mini G9 Workstation, a beast that performs lightening fast, without errors, with a small, clean footprint.
I am a 15 year professional photographer and a more recent drone video pilot, so I need my workstations to be able to handle large files without lag so that I can do my job efficiently. And that’s what the Z2 offers, in spades. My photography editing programs are responsive and quick on both import and export, and rendering videos (generally I export sub 5 minute clips) takes only a few minutes. There is nothing worse for me as a creator having spent hours editing for a program to lag or lock, and me to fear losing valuable hours and work, and with the Z2 I haven’t yet had to deal with that issue. Too, my son plays games on it, and even at the highest game video settings, this HP doesn’t drop frame rate. I really couldn’t be happier with this workstation from both a personal and professional perspective.
I should say that the Z2 came in perfect condition, well packaged with all the cords and basic peripherals I’d need to get going…all you need is a monitor. And while the included mouse and keyboard are rather basic, they do work well, and have the same clean, minimalistic style as does the workstation itself. I have HP wireless versions of both mouse and keyboard, but I used the included versions for the scope of this review.
And I really love the size of the Z2, and if you have a limited work space, this is the computer for you. I’ve included a picture with a soda can for reference, but sufficed to say, this doesn’t take up too much real estate. Even so, it can be easily opened and upgraded, so I don’t feel like it is a buy and use and discard when it’s time to expand, but rather it can grow with your needs, which is reassuring, especially if you aren’t using this to make money. Too there are plenty of inputs, so upgrading hard drive storage is simple with externals.
It isn’t overly loud too…you will hear it when you are putting the processor through its paces, but it isn’t overly noisy, and it lets me know it’s not going to overheat. I’d rather hear it cooling, than fear it getting over warm.
One thing I would like, (and perhaps there are optional components to accomplish this), but I would love if the case itself had a way that I could mount it on the wall. This isn’t a criticism, but rather just a handy upgrade, and, for this review, a place to say that the Z2 pretty much checks every box I want for it to do, and this is coming from someone who makes his living using this workstation.
They’ve really put a great deal of thought into this workstation, even going so far that the Z on the face of the case can be rotated for both horizontal and vertical configurations. A tiny thing, yes, but further proof that HP isn’t trying to squeeze out every penny of profit. And as a side note from someone in the profession of aesthetics, it’s a wonderful addition!
A last note, it does come with Wolf Security preinstalled, so you are protected the minute you fire the Z2 up, offering peace-of-mind from the get-go.
HP is putting out wonderful, innovative, simple and small computers that directly impact my time and bottomline, and both for the better. I couldn’t be more pleased, and am curious for what the company has in store next. Huge recommendation from me!

If you are in the market for a new desktop computer this HP Z2 G9 workstation is mini but mighty. This tiny beast comes with a 12 Gen Intel Core Processor, 32GB of installed RAM, 64 Bit Operating system, an X64-based processor, and Windows 10 Pro already loaded. This little beast will do everything I ever need it to do and then some. I am able to switch easily and quickly between programs with no lagging. I really like that there are ports on the front for gaming controllers. Included with the computer are a mouse and keyboard. I did have to buy a display port adaptor to hook up a monitor I already have.

It's a powerhouse
This is my favorite desktop to date. It looks so sharp with my setup. I don't have to dedicate a huge space for a tower anymore. The graphics are on point; every click is sharp. The processor is impressive and fast. The only odd thing was there wasn't an HDMI port for the display. I had to get a conversion cord for a mini display port to HDMI. Super cheap cord, but odd that the port wasn't included. Also, to get into it, there's a simple little latch, which could make future upgrades easy. I think size and functionality are a perfect match in this modern workstation. It's awesome.

The HP Z2 Mini G9 Workstation is a great piece of machinery. We absolutely love it. It is tiny, so it hardly takes up any space at all. It was so simple to setup as well. Just plug and play.
