The Best Workstation available today. Delightful - exceed every expectation.I've no doubt that this is the best workstation available today and it's absolutely a delight to use.
The physical design and layout is outstanding and should be winning awards.
All components are well situated and easily accessible without tools.
It's bang up to date with both PCIE gen 5 and gen 4 expansion slots. The PCIE gen 4 nvme ssd storage is easily accessible. The optional front-access nvme storage is a game changer and makes backups and copying nvme drives a breeze. The convenient bays for 3.5 inch spinning disks (2 in my case) are easy to use, tool-less and pre-cabled witrh power and SATA.
Every form of external communication is available, even more so with the optional Thunderbolt 4 expansion board (which has worked flawlesly in connecting every TB4, TH3 or USB4 device I've tried), 10 Gbps ethernet ports and high speed front USB ports with built-in memory card reader.
Cooling and air flow have been carefully crafted and the system runs well below stated maximums for CPU cores, memory and graphics card. - without a lot of noise from fans.
Performance is stunning, and you're able to expand memory as needed or even upgrade the Xeon CPU - although my W5-3435X has easily handled everything I've tried so far.
As PCIE gen 5 was availble on several expansion slots, I decided to add a PCIE gen5 nvme SSD to the system in order to compare performance. This presented a few challenges and I had to try a few different approaches before I could get the system to recognize the gen5 storage rather than treating it as gen4. Conclusion - Gen5 nvme is of course faster, but good gen4 is likely adequate for most tasks and significantly faster than Gen3 nvme, SATA SSD or SATA spinning disks.
There are some great optional features (some mentioned already) and I'd recommend that if you can you add those during your initial purchase - Of course they can be added later, although I've found buying addional parts sometimes be a challenge - installation however is easy.
It would difficult to fault this product in any way, and everything seems to have been thought of during design. I've run Windows 11 Pro Workstation, Ubuntu (with KDE) and Fedora 41 (with KDE) - all worked without issues, drivers automatically available or easily downloadable.
The Sure Start BIOS is great, and provides every options that you'd need, including BIOS updates over the network with automatic download from HP. The system has always booted without issue.
My only challenge is deciding who in the family gets to use it - my son with Phd in particle physics is leading at the moment, but everyone would like one - including me!
