Rated 4 out of 5 by Jerold L. from Jerold's review It's a nice gaming Lap Top . It's a heavy 17.3" . The power supply is big and heavy as well. It's really not meant to carried around. It does everything I need it to do, just wish it was a little bit lighter. Lap Top and charger in my carrier bag ways 12 pounds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Katana_user from "almost" there. needs improvement as a past Envy 17 owner I much prefer the more solid construction of the Envy. Omen 17 seems "plastic"y and flimsy. HP always disappoints with memory configuration, it's not that HP tech doesn't understand memory or it's use. Its the fact that the business decision-makers skimp on memory because the decisionmakers HAVE so litttle tech experience. 32Gb is the minimum standard RAM that should be in a "performance" pc. Anyone not knowing that should go to work at McDonalds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Satisfied Customer I chose the Omen for its performance, 17" screen, and because it had more than adequate HD capacity. I am not a Gamer but I know that gaming models have excellent video and processor performance. I do miss the numeric keypad and that is why I gave a 4 star rating rather than a 5 star.

Rated 3 out of 5 by J. P. Trickel from Initial Omen Thoughts. I bought this laptop because of its impressive specifications. I am not a gamer but do use high powered engineering software. I like the screen and performance so far however I just got it so have not been able to fully test it. I was surprised how large the power supply is. I believe I saw the actual power input but failed to see, if noted in specs, how large the power supply unit is. Roughly 6" x 6" x 1.5" tall. The online pictures shows a tapering keyboard however it was unclear the bottom has what appears to be elevated ventilation holes which elevates the laptop keyboard off the table higher than expected. Other than that so far so good. I hope its worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SQL Boy from Great but recommend a second SSD for serious gaming. I've only had this laptop for a week but so far, it's been great. The graphics performance is great and I've already added a second SSD. The next option will be expanding there RAM to run data analysis as I am a DBA and developer when I am not gaming. This should last a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NB12345 from A very high performance laptop! Been using this laptop for over a week now and it’s the perfect laptop for both gaming and productivity. With having an RTX 4080 and Intel Graphics, battery life and power consumption are well balanced! Battery life is somewhat impressive but you must consider that this laptop can be power hungry as it’s a high performance laptop. If you’re looking to replace your desktop and to have a laptop where you could connect it to a dock, this would be ideal! The performance all around is incredible!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Captain Amazing from A Gaming Beast Without Breaking the Bank As a seasoned gamer, I've chased performance across countless laptops, but the HP Omen 17 finally feels like the real deal. This machine isn't just fast, it's a powerhouse that devours AAA titles like Pac-Man gobbles pellets. From the buttery smooth frame rates to the immersive visuals, the Omen 17 has become my go-to battle station, both at home and on the go. Performance That Punches Above Its Weight: Forget chugging and lag – the Omen 17 is a speed demon. My latest obsession, Star Citizen, runs flawlessly on max settings, thanks to the Intel i7-13700HX and NVIDIA RTX 4070. Whether I'm battling dragons or exploring sprawling open worlds, the gameplay is silky smooth, letting me truly react and strategize without the frustration of technical hitches. Immersion That Rocks: The visuals are equally impressive. The 2560 x 1440 display delivers stunning clarity and vibrant colors, making every scene feel alive. Whether it's the intricate details of a character's armor or the breathtaking vistas of a fantasy landscape, the Omen 17 pulls me right into the game. Plus, the 165 Hz keeps action sequences blur-free, giving me a crucial edge in competitive online matches. Built to Last (and Game): This laptop isn't just powerful, it feels built to last. The sturdy Shadow black chassis and Full-size, 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard exude a sense of quality that inspires confidence. I don't worry about babying it during intense gaming sessions, knowing it can handle the heat (literally, thanks to the efficient cooling system). More Than Just Muscle: But the Omen 17 isn't just a one-trick pony for gamers. The 1 tb storage easily accommodates my extensive game library, and the 16 GB DDR5-4800 MHz RAM lets me multitask between gaming, streaming, and browsing with ease. It's powerful enough to handle even demanding creative work like video editing, making it a versatile choice for more than just playtime. A Few Nitpicks (But Minor): No machine is perfect, and the Omen 17 is no exception. The battery life could be better, especially for extended gaming sessions away from an outlet. The weight might feel hefty for some, but considering the power packed inside, it's a fair trade-off for me. The Verdict: Roar with Confidence If you're looking for a powerful, immersive, and well-built gaming laptop that won't break the bank, the HP Omen 17 is a serious contender. It's exceeded my expectations and delivered an unparalleled gaming experience. If you're ready to unleash your inner champion, this is the laptop to do it with. Highly recommended for: Hardcore gamers, casual gamers who want a future-proof machine, multitaskers who need power and performance. Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rated 4 out of 5 by KlipschOnkyo from Great Laptop with minor flaws........ This is a very nice laptop overall. My only complaints are: 1. (and this is the biggest one) This is a 17" laptop. It is absolutely beyond me why there is no numpad on this laptop! There is MORE than enough room. It's just dumb not to have one. 2. The screen is only 300 nits and is only 65% RGB. It's just a below average screen on an expensive laptop. 3. The power brick is a monster! It literally is THREE regular laptop power bricks stuck together in size. Summary: My son likes it and for the price it was purchased at I am overlooking the flaws. As an adult, if it was for me I would NOT forgive the flaws. Oh well, my son is happy and I suppose that's all that matters.......... :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Aleiha from Great Custom PC - Bonuses Not Clearly Defined Bought a custom HP Omen. Got a good deal. Great laptop. Wish I had the extra funds to go for the 4070, but the speed is good and the screen is super clear. Really love the laptop so far. Tried to arrive 2 days early, but wasn’t prepared for it to come so soon. FEDEX did good delivering. Little miffed they shipped a $2k laptop in the original box and nothing else, but nothing was damaged. However, they sent me an Alan Wake 2 code, but I couldn’t redeem it because I didn’t purchase a 4070, but was told in the email it qualified due to the RTX GeForce class, but after waiting with Customer support for over an hour and multiple attempts to redeem, was told I cannot because the graphics card doesn’t qualify. Shame on HP for sending me one to begin with. However, I didn’t even realize it was a bonus til after I made the purchase. Pleased to get a 2 year included Game Pass Ultimate subscription and a 1 year Microsoft Office Suite subscription.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Nobody15348 from Nice and Beefy. Minor keyboard and touchpad complaints Nice beefy gaming laptop. Seem to be very good at dispensing heat. Do not like the P1-P6 keys on the left. Would have preferred a traditional keyboard with numberpads. Lastly, the touchpad can be overly sensitive at time (compared to Apple laptops and Omen 15 laptops.

Rated 4 out of 5 by jcfuller from Powerhouse for the money. Some silly things. Specs are awesome. So far, so good on performance - the model that I ordered is an absolute powerhouse for photo/video editing, especially for the money. The OEM power adapter, at 2.5lbs and 1/4 the size of the laptop is BONKERS huge... like ridiculously so... and unusable in terms of mobility. There is no reason for this, as a slim third-party 330W power adapter can be purchased separately . HP doesn't currently provide any other adapters that are compatible (even though you'll see slim 90W adapters and other options that are not actually compatible in the accessories when purchasing). The OMEN Light Studio is buggy - hopefully they are working on a fix. The 240Hz screen is awesome. And, in a world where laptops are all losing their ports, this thing has them all - a must for photographers. The speakers aren't great, and I don't understand why they would cheap out on them other than they must assume that the user will be wearing headphones for the majority of the time. I miss having a number pad on the keyboard - would rather have that than programmable macro buttons. Overall, I love it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by wlosinno from HP Omen Gaming Laptop The laptop is fast. I ran the perfmantest and it is in the top 99%. Here are the items to keep in mind when buying this laptop 1. Weight - 6.5 lbs. Its heavy. 2. Power Brick - The largest power brick I have ever seen. I think it weighs 3 to 4 lbs. 3. Trackpad - When playing games and the laptop heats up. The trackpad starts failing. It works with the finger gestures but not the bottom left or right corner. Not sure if this is just my laptop but will be contacting HP 4. Update your Bios - A lot of initial issues I had was due to not having the latest bios applied. 5. Not a fan of preloaded software - HP you need to stop loading junk software like antivirus and other software that does not provide any additional support for the laptop. 6. HP - Would be nice as a gaming laptop that a logo would light up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Neico H from HP Omen This is my first HP Omen, love the overall power of the Intel chip and RAM. I didn’t know and was disappointed to learn the PS Standard keyboard is a different design than a business keyboard. I’ve owned and loved a HP business Pavilion in the past, but I couldn’t find a Pavilion with enough power. Because of the PS standard keyboard, I would not buy another Omen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by sierrasj from A beautiful machine, would’ve been outta budget if not on sale but now I’m spoiled This is my first legit gaming laptop, so if you’re a pro, take what I say with a grain of salt. This laptop is gorgeous, sleek, speedy, and powerful. I got it on sale for $1550 so quite the steal. The keyboard and touchpad quality are solid, nothing feels flimsy. The RGB backlit keyboard is customizable in quadrants (not per key) in the model I bought, but that suits me just fine since I think the RGB is just a nice bonus. The graphics are great, and I’m able to run multiple games/programs at a time with little to no consequence on quality. The two things I was surprised about/wasn’t elated about: 1. The charging power block is a veritable brick. And by that I mean it’s actually a larger square than a rectangle, and heavier than my partner’s Acer Predator charger (which I thought was massive). Will be slightly harder to transport than my old one, but I’ll manage. It’s a small complaint. 2. The material of the laptop (I have the black/dark grey finish) is that smooth material that will smudge easily and show fingerprints no matter how clean you keep your workspace & your hands. The decal on the back is a cool piece of holographic plastic that might be flimsier than it looks, but who cares. It looks super slick. But the laptop looks perpetually dirty at close inspection. Again, not a huge deal, but worth mentioning. Overall incredible gaming laptop and I’m looking forward to using it for as long as it will last me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GAHu from HP OMEN 17 Laptop PC Very Good Computer. Very Fast and a lot better than my older HP. But, not too big of a Fan of how the keyboard is made. The bumps on the F and J keys are barely felt. They should be raised higher to make it easier to know when you have your hands in the correct place. Also, did not realize that this PC does not have a keypad. Have to get use to not having it.

Bravia 100inches receives my Hp Envy just fine, but with Omen, I tried everything so far. CHangin refresh rate, resolution, turn on off, all HDMI's on TV, nothing works. It gives a black screen on TV, and sometimes it goes black screen on Omen till I unplug HDMI, tried 3 HDMI cables, which work fine with my envy. What is my next step? No one that tried that is savvy with computers and monitor screens has any luck. Am I to have to send it back?

Rated 5 out of 5 by Larry_P from Very nice gaming laptop Really happy with this Omen so far, this is my third HP and second Omen. Very fast, it runs several apps and Microsoft Flight Simulator and other games at the same time with ease (though I am more of a casual gamer, not hard-core). One minor complaint is that I don't like having to hit the FN button to enable the speaker volume, brightness etc... on the top row Function buttons, my last one was not like that (may be changeable in config though, haven't checked yet). I use a laptop cooling fan underneath it due to the heat, which of course is more than a non-gaming laptop. Still don't know why HP puts the Intel/Nvidia and other stickers on the side where the mouse is used, I have to take them off, they could be placed elsewhere. The B&O speakers are pretty good for a laptop and much better than my last Omen. If you use a number pad on the right, note that it was eliminated on this model for gaming arrows. Overall I have had great experiences with HP laptops and hope to with this one.

I am interested in the OMEN by HP Laptop 17-cm2047nr for video editing using Topaz Video AI software. They told me to be sure the graphics aren't "render only". Can this laptop be used for intensive video editing?

Asked by: Tyronious
Omen laptops are designed with gaming in mind and not video editing. If you are seeking to perform intensive video editing the HP Z Mobile Workstation PCs are recommended. They can be found at this link: https://www.hp.com/us-en/workstations/mobile-workstation-pc.html
