HP announces its inaugural AI in Social Impact Award

Through this award, HP is enabling organizations to innovate and scale their AI solutions to create lasting impact in global communities.

HP aims to accelerate digital equity for 150 million people by 2030. Capitalizing on this ambition, we are excited to announce the inaugural HP AI in Social Impact Award in partnership with MIT Solve. We believe AI and the convergence of highly accessible computing power with massive amounts of data and deep learning will transform the way people work and companies operate. The award supports entrepreneurs and their teams to advance their AI solutions for social impact and provides each winner with $25,000 in grant funding and an HP Z6A workstation designed for building and running DS/AI applications to scale their important work. Ultimately, this award is intended to empower more entrepreneurs to utilize AI for social impact and amplify their efforts underway today.

The recipients of this year’s award are Fetosense by CareNX Innovations, Livox International, and Mapeo by Digital Democracy. These organizations are impacting the lives of people around the world with their innovative AI-enabled solutions that address education, healthcare, and accessibility challenges.

Meet the organizations making a change with AI

CareNX Innovations, a healthcare company that provides end-to-end solutions to vulnerable mothers in remote locations and connects them with modern healthcare facilities, recognized a need to reduce prematurity in low- and middle-income countries. They created Fetosense, an affordable AI-based heart monitoring solution designed to monitor pregnancy remotely. It integrates clinical data, signal processing, and explainable AI via conversational agents and large language models. This innovation aims to help overcome common barriers to fetal monitoring by boosting accuracy in classification of premature cases, pinpointing crucial heart rate patterns for diagnosis, and advancing healthcare worker skills.

Livox International has a mission to empower individuals with disabilities who face barriers to express their unique perspectives and create impactful content. Moved by the needs of his disabled daughter, Livox International CEO and founder Carlos Pereira created Livox, a Generative AI content generation platform and alternative communication software for people with disabilities and learning impairments. Through Livox, non-verbal people can speak, learn how to read and write, and understand abstract concepts. The technology enables millions of people with disabilities to communicate and learn with their AI application, providing fluency and expression to those who struggle with speech and visual communication.

Digital Democracy recognized barriers to accessibility for indigenous communities who come from cultures where access to technology is limited, and information is primarily shared orally rather than through the written word. To break down the barriers, Digital Democracy created Mapeo, an AI-based solution that helps indigenous community members search for funding opportunities that will allow them to prepare documents and draft funding proposals. This helps address the gap these communities face in accessing grants for indigenous-led organizations.
Mapeo is a mobile and desktop application, co-created with Indigenous Peoples in the Amazon, that enables communities to map and monitor critical ecosystems. It is easy to use, works offline to support mapping in remote locations without internet access, and allows users complete control over their data.
