Bringing families face-to-face from any place matters. Dandelion Paradise

HP helped Zhao Gangyao use technology to help kids in rural China learn and communicate.

For many children in the Sanwant Village of Anhui, China, a bridge of communication to the outside world means more than geography.

Sanwang Village is located in the remote north part of Anhui province, with a population of nearly 5000. But almost half of the population’s adults are working far away to support the family, and are only able to see their children once or twice a year. With limited access for web communications and learning IT skills, these kids were in danger of being left behind. So Zhao Gangyao, an official in Sanwant Village, set out to do something about it.

"I'm from one of these rural villages as well," said Zhao. "So when I first saw HP’s rural-supporting program years ago, I immediately submitted my plan."

By collaborating with HP's Dandelion Paradise Project, he was able to set up an e-center at the village school. HP provided two desktop computers and accessories (including camera & software) to build up the e-center.

The result? Parents and children were able to make important connects via webcam. And the technology became an essential resource to help narrow the gap between rural and urban education.

Making connections. To Zhao Gangyao, it matters.
